Home FAQs Troubleshooting

The signal from my pickup is too quiet or weak. What should I check?

Submarine Pickups produce a standard instrument-level output, so in most setups they should be as loud as a regular electric guitar. If your signal feels too quiet:

Check pickup height – The sensors work best when they sit 3–8 mm below the strings. If the pickup is too far away, the signal will drop noticeably. Adjust using the supplied height screws.

Check alignment – Make sure the pickup is properly situated under the strings. If it’s slightly off, one or more sensors may not be positioned correctly.

Try reseating the switches (SubPro) – Move them to another position and back again to ensure they are properly thrown.

Angle the pickup if needed – It’s possible to tilt the pickup slightly so that one end sits closer to the strings, helping to balance output.

On the SubPro – If too many strings are routed to one output, the signal may be reduced. For six-string routing, assign three strings to channel 1 and three to channel 2, then actively combine the two signals using a mixer or an active ABY box such as the Boss LS-2.

Cable length – Very long unbuffered cable runs can weaken the signal. Try a shorter lead or a buffer pedal if needed.

Test another rig – If the signal is still weak, try another amp or interface to rule out external issues.
