The pickup won’t fit my guitar – there isn’t enough space under the strings. What can I do?
Submarine Pickups require about 9 mm of clearance beneath the strings, with the ideal working distance being 3–8 mm. If there isn’t enough room:
Adjust the pickup height – Use the supplied M3 adjustment screws to raise the pickup closer to the strings.
Remove the baseplate (SubPro and SubSix) – Taking off the baseplate reduces the pickup depth and can gain you an extra 1 mm of clearance.
Angle the pickup – Tilting one end slightly can help it clear a low string or fit between uneven string heights.
Move closer to the bridge – Clearance usually increases nearer the bridge, and many players prefer the tonal balance of this position.
If all else fails – On electric guitars, the scratchplate can sometimes be removed or routed to provide extra clearance. We recommend consulting a professional before modifying your instrument.
