What sort of interface should I plug the 6 outputs of the SubSix into?
Each output of the SubSix requires a Hi-Z / instrument-level input. While many interfaces have one or two of these, very few provide six or more. Some interfaces that do are:
Tascam Model 12
MOTU 8Pre-ES
Behringer UMC1820
You might be tempted to use line inputs, but please note:
High frequencies will be noticeably reduced
Dynamics may not feel natural
Additional gain will be required, which often increases noise and cross-talk
While the signal may still be usable, we do not recommend relying on line inputs for the SubSix.
If your interface doesn’t have enough Hi-Z inputs, the solution is to add active DI boxes:
Radial J48 or BSS – excellent professional options
Behringer DI800 – affordable and perfectly usable for multi-channel setups
Orchid Micro DIs – exceptional quality in a very compact format.
This ensures that each string’s output is captured cleanly, with the correct tone, dynamics, and minimal noise.
