Hexaphonic Audio processing with SubSix Playground...

We are happy to announce a brand new effects suite built in Max (MSP) to use with SubSix

It's been an 18 month journey were we worked with multidisciplinary artist, musician, lecturer and Max wizard Lewis Wolstanholme"I'm extremely excited about this project! It has been an absolute pleasure working so closely with Pete, sharing ideas and musical fragments that reach beyond the typical guitarist repertoire. And at this point, I'm very interested to hear people build upon these ideas even further, and translate some of our sonic ideas into their musical and artistic works. I think a project like this is never finished - there's always more ways we can develop upon technologies like Pete's, which redefine what we can expect from a pre-established instrument like the guitar. I'm excited to see how artists interpret the ideas we embedded into these Max audio effects, and would love to collaborate further with them to continue extending the SubSix Playground. Personally, I'm particularly interested in employing these tools in immersive audio environments, and continue to develop Max patches that explore this through my own artistic language.."

Submarine Playground is a free, open-source collection of hexaphonic Max modules for the SubSix. Each string runs its own signal path, so you can build pedal-style chains or modular-synth-like patches where complex behaviour emerges fast. All six string signals remain fully separate, preserving clarity and articulation, yet they can be controlled as a group with shared parameters. Furthermore, those shared parameters can be spread and articulated across strings, enabling static mapping or animated modulation per string.

WHAT'S INSIDE?

MODULATION
• Spread - static per-string parameter mapping with linear, logarithmic,
discrete, and continuous options
• Spread LFO - animated mapping of the above with rate, depth, phase,
shape, offset, and width
• Volume Pedal - allows a typical analogue volume pedal to create smooth
global controls that respects the hexaphonic signal path

DYNAMIC
• Buffer Delay - per-string delay lines with independent time and feedback
control
• Enveloper - per-string envelope follower and amplitude shaping
• Harmonic Tremolo - pitch following LFOs that enable for harmonically
informed amplitude and ring modulation.
• Stereo Imager - static panning or dynamic movement across the stereo
field

COLOUR
• Hex Fuzz - high-definition fuzz with no intermodulation distortion between
strings
• Hex Tone - fast per-string parametric equalisation
• Pitch Shift - independent pitch shifting per string for chords, textures
and instantaneous scorditura

UTITLITY
Hexaphonic Input - ease of use input controls
Hexaphonic Output - ease of use output controls

QUICK START:
• Plug the six SubSix inputs into your audio interface using HiZ inputs or DIs.
• Open Submarine.maxproj - this auto-loads playground.maxpat.
• Adjust your audio settings and choose the correct input channels for hexaphonic input.
• Turn the audio on - power symbol, bottom right corner of the Max window
• Chain modules in any order. Embed any effect in your own patchers with bpatcher.

REQUIREMENTS:
Max by Cycling '74, SubSix by Submarine, and, if you want to save your patch, a valid Max license.

Available now, only on GitHub:

simPickup Suite is a pair of Max for Live devices designed for processing multi-channel guitar pickups in Ableton Live. The singular simPickup device offers a handful of preset pickup models, with the ability to freely place the virtual pickup anywhere along the string. Optionally, custom filter responses can be defined for untraditional pickup sounds or processing other instruments.
