A new plugin for SubSix...

A few months back we received a pretty exciting email from one of our customers Jacob Johnson from Orphic Instruments...Following his recent purchase of our SubSix he's created a brand new, free plugin for Ableton Live

"I love the emails we get from the Submarine community. This one from Jacob was particularly great, what he's created is brilliant - the ability to model familiar guitar pickups with the SubSix but crucially without summing to mono. The six channels are preserved throughout the process in an easy to use Ableton plugin." - Pete Roe, Submarine

simPickup Suite is a pair of Max for Live devices designed for processing multi-channel guitar pickups in Ableton Live. The singular simPickup device offers a handful of preset pickup models, with the ability to freely place the virtual pickup anywhere along the string. Optionally, custom filter responses can be defined for untraditional pickup sounds or processing other instruments.

For ease of control, multiple instances of simPickup contained within group tracks may be achieved with the simPickupGroup device. When placed on the parent group track, simPickupGroup auto-maps to the parameters of constituent simPickup devices, simplifying control and reducing the need to click between multiple devices and tracks. Additional options for spreading key parameter values across instances allows for subtle variance from string to string.

I’m not usually one to express gratitude to the algorithm but I must credit seeing an ad for the SubSix at the peak of my frustrations with my prior pickup. I decided to go for it and it ended up being everything I wanted it to be.

" I’ve been interested in going beyond traditional guitar playing and signal chains for a few years, and I had even invested a bit in another well-known hex pickup and guitar synthesizer system. But I felt too boxed into that ecosystem, when my main goal was really just to get audio channels for individual strings into my computer for processing in Ableton Live and Max/MSP.

I’m not usually one to express gratitude to the algorithm but I must credit seeing an ad for the SubSix at the peak of my frustrations with my prior pickup. I decided to go for it and it ended up being everything I wanted it to be. Way simpler and more directly applicable to my goals. The simPickup Suite is just the beginning - my next steps are polyphonic looping systems, and generally exploring more of the multi channel guitar + computer domain."
