Most guitars are mono: one output jack, one signal path. To get a real stereo setup (wide delays, ping-pong echoes, dual-amp rigs, true left/right reverbs), you need two separate signals leaving your instrument setup so you can treat them as Left and Right.

With SubPro, the easiest way to think about it is:

  • Channel 1 = Left

  • Channel 2 = Right

Once you have those two separate outputs, everything downstream is just normal pedal/amp/interface wiring.

What you need

To make a stereo guitar signal, you just need a way to get Channel 1 and Channel 2 out of SubPro and into two destinations.

Minimum

  • SubPro

  • Adaptor cable (to convert the SubPro output to 1/4" TRS)

  • One of the following:

    • Y-split cable (1/4" TRS to 2 x 1/4" TS) to give you two separate mono jacks: CH1 and CH2

    • Single 1/4" TRS stereo cable if your next device accepts stereo on one input jack

  • Two destinations (any of these work):

    • Two amps

    • Two channels of a mixer

    • Two inputs on an audio interface/DAW

    • A stereo guitar pedal’s Left and Right inputs (or a single TRS stereo input)

Optional, but often the point

  • A stereo guitar pedal (reverb/delay/chorus/compression/modulation)

  • Or two different pedal chains so Left and Right are processed differently

Quick Cabling

SubPro carries Channel 1 and Channel 2 down a single small stereo cable. To turn that into normal guitar connections, you “break it out” into two 1/4" jacks.

SubPro -> adaptor cable -> (either) Y-split OR TRS stereo guitar cable -> the rest of your rig

  • Adaptor cable: converts the small stereo jack to a 1/4" TRS (stereo) jack.

  • From there, you choose the next step based on what you’re plugging into:

    • Y-split cable (TRS to 2 x TS) if you want two separate mono 1/4" jacks (CH1 and CH2)

    • Single 1/4" TRS stereo guitar cable if your next device has a single stereo TRS input

Label the two mono cables from the Y-split as CH1 and CH2

Once you have two 1/4" jacks, everything else is just normal guitar cabling.

Signal Flow

Channel 1 -> left chain or left input
Run CH1 into your left pedal chain, the Left input of a stereo pedal, your left amp, or your left interface/mixer input.

Channel 2 -> right chain or right input
Run CH2 into your right chain/input, right amp, or right interface/mixer input.

Keep the channels separate until you hit a device that is designed to handle stereo (stereo pedal, mixer, interface, DAW, etc.).

Three Simple Stereo Guitar Recipes

Recipe A - Low strings on one side, high strings on the other

This is the quickest way to get proper width, because the Left and Right sides contain genuinely different parts of the guitar.

  1. Choose a split point
    A common starting point is low strings vs high strings (for example, E A D on one side, G B E on the other).

  2. Set the per-string switches on SubPro
    Each string switch is a simple 3-position selector:

    • Left = Channel 1

    • Centre = Off

    • Right = Channel 2

    • Put your “low” group switches to Left (CH1), and your “high” group switches to Right (CH2). If you want a string muted from the stereo setup entirely, set it to Centre (Off).


  3. Pan or place the channels

    • In a DAW or mixer: pan CH1 left, CH2 right

    • In the real world: send CH1 to your left amp/speaker and CH2 to your right amp/speaker

Recipe B - Feed a stereo guitar pedal properly

A lot of guitar pedals are stereo, which makes this an easy win once you’ve got CH1 and CH2 available.

  1. Break SubPro out into Left/Right (CH1/CH2).

  2. Plug CH1 into the pedal’s Left input and CH2 into the pedal’s Right input.

  3. Take the pedal’s Left and Right outputs to two amps, two mixer channels, or two interface inputs.

Stereo reverb is the obvious one, but stereo delay, chorus, compression, and stereo modulation can all work brilliantly. Start subtle, then widen it until it feels “bigger” without turning into two separate guitars.

Note: If your stereo pedal only has one input jack, it’s often a TRS stereo input (it expects Left and Right on one connector) - in that case, skip the Y-split and run a single 1/4" TRS stereo cable from the adaptor cable straight into the pedal.


Recipe C - Two different chains (and two different sounds)

This is where it gets fun: treat each channel like a separate instrument.

  1. Send CH1 through a chain that supports the “low” job (tighter drive, octave, compression, whatever suits).

  2. Send CH2 through a chain that supports the “high” job (brighter drive, chorus, shimmer reverb, etc.).

  3. Bring them back together:

    • Two amps (Left and Right)

    • Two channels of a mixer

    • Two interface inputs into a DAW

Because each side is being processed differently, you get a stereo image that feels wide even at low volumes.

Experiment with switch patterns

Once you’ve tried a simple low-vs-high split, start treating the switches like a layout tool.

Because each string can be set to CH1 (Left), Off, or CH2 (Right), you can create patterns that feel much wider and more detailed than a basic two-block split.

A few ideas to try:

  • Alternating Left/Right across adjacent strings (for example L, R, L, R, L, R).
    This can sound surprisingly “3D”, especially with fingerpicking, arpeggios, or anything where notes ring into each other.

  • Anchor and spread: keep one or two strings fixed on one side (often the lowest string) and distribute the rest across Left and Right.
    This can keep the stereo image stable while still feeling wide.

  • Selective Off: set a string to Centre (Off) to remove it from the split entirely.
    Useful if one string dominates or if you want the stereo effect to focus on a smaller group of strings.

Small changes in switch positions can make a big difference, so it’s worth spending five minutes just experimenting and listening.

Steps:

  1. Plug the adaptor cable into either SubPro minijack.

  2. Plug the Y-split into the adaptor.

  3. Plug two normal mono guitar cables into the two ends of the Y-split.

  4. Those two cables are now Channel 1 and Channel 2.

Common mistakes:

  • Using a normal mono guitar cable straight out of the SubPro. That will not give you both channels separately.

  • Using a headphone splitter. You need a TRS-to-dual-TS insert cable, not a headphone accessory.

  • Splitting later in the chain when what you really wanted was two independent channels from the start.

Take it further - place each string anywhere in the stereo guitar field

If you want a more detailed stereo image, you can go beyond Left/Right and treat each string as its own channel.

Using SubSix into a mixer or DAW, you can bring in the strings separately and pan them individually. That lets you “lay out” the guitar across the stereo field however you like, from a subtle spread to a wide, piano-like image where every string has its own space.


Common mistakes (quick fixes)

  • Only hearing one side: you’re probably using a mono lead somewhere, or only one output from the split.

  • No width: check you’re actually sending different strings to each channel, or using stereo processing somewhere after the split.

  • Sounds weird when summed to mono: some stereo effects introduce phase differences. If you know your rig will be mono sometimes, keep the widening subtle.
